1. Metaxas, Georgios (19th cent.)
Document addressed by the Secretariat(=Ministry) of Finance of the State (with a draft edict attached) to King Otto, forwarding a document by the Greek Consul in Bucharest concerning the content of the bequest by the Ioannina-born Georgios Metaxas.
Due to the absence of a National Fund, the Secretariat requests an edict be issued for depositing of the aforementioned funds in the National Bank of Greece. According to his will, which was drawn up on 23 August 1841, large sums are given to the National Fund of Greece, the Ioannina Hospital and the University of Athens. Athens, 11 November 1841. 2. Antoniou, Sotirios (19th cent.)
Letter addressed by the Consul of Greece in Cairo to the Ministry of the Royal House and Foreign Affairs. It investigates whether the University received the amount of 2,000 piasters, which was delivered to the then Consul S.D. Kossivas by Stergios Karakostas, heir and executor of Sotirios Antoniou’s will. Cairo, 4/16 October 1858. General State Archives, Central Service

Document addressed by the Minister of the Interior Affairs Dimitrios Mavrokordatos to the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs and Public Education informing that Ioannis Christophorou (from Vitsa in Zagori) leaves large sums to charitable institutions of Epirus and Athens (Hadjikonsta Orphanage, Poorhouse, Home for the Blind, Girls’ Orphanage), and also for scholarships of students at the Technical University of Athens. The handwritten will and accompanying letter of Dimitrios Vikelas: he bequeaths part of his fortune to the Museum of Fine Arts (which operated as National Gallery until 1900) and almost all of his library to the Municipality of Herakleion of Crete, on the condition that it will be preserved in a conspicuous landmark bearing his name. He also instructs members of his family to donate his unpublished manuscripts they deem fit for publication to the “Society for the Dissemination of beneficial books.” Athens, 8 July 1905.
